Winter is the time of year that plays havoc with my weight and I know it does with other's as well......Why?Simply because one tends to think of desserts and sweet things more often, especially after supper!Geskroede vermicilli is a firm favourite with my family. This is once again a combination of my mom's recipe and Auntie Saabie Siers , so here goes ........oh,try it with vanilla ice cream while it is still hot, simply delicious...........!
Ingredients:
125 g butter/maragarine
5 pieces stick cinnamon
5 cardamon pods
Half a box Sunshine vermicilli
1 and 1/2 cups of water
2 cups of milk
half a tin condensed milk
1/2 cup sugar
Sultanas and blanched almonds are optional.(These can be added at the stage when adding milk )
Method:
Place the butter ,stick cinnamon and cardamon in a pot and melt butter.Once butter is melted place the broken pieces of vermicilli in the pot and braise till it is slightly brown. Now add the water and sugar, place stove on medium heat. Keep stirring with a fork and after about 5 minutes add the milk and the condensed milk as well.Put the stove on low heat stirring occasionaly ,after about 15/20 minutes the vermicilli should be done,WALA! This is something everyone will enjoy, especially with the ice cream..........
This recipe can be done quickly when having unexpected guests popping in.You will love this one..........mmmm!!
